Lakestar founder Klaus Hommels invests “seven-digit sum” in Factory Berlin, joins its board

As Factory Berlin expands its operations in the German capital, European investor _extraordinaire_ Klaus Hommels has aligned himself with the fast-growing company behind it.

The Zurich, Switzerland-based founder of VC firm Lakestar, which has just raised a massive €350 million fund, has backed Factory Berlin financially with the injection of a “seven-digit sum” (investment vagueness and Germany continue to go hand in hand). The early investor in companies such as Skype, Spotify, Airbnb and Facebook has also agreed to join Factory's board.

Factory Berlin houses the likes of SoundCloud, Twitter, Uber and Zendesk at its Berlin campus, but also serves as a platform for the entire ecosystem as a place for events, meetings, lunches and more.

Opened in June 2014, Factory aims to open a new site in Kreuzberg in early 2016, with three additional locations in Berlin planned for next year.

“I’m investing in Factory Berlin because I’m committed to the tremendous potential of the Berlin tech ecosystem, and I believe Factory is lifting this potential by creating a powerful community for both the new and old economy. The Factory connects space, services and innovators in very exciting ways,” Hommels said on the deal.
