Oslo’s The Future Group, a social entertainment platform that blends virtual interactivity with TV, has raised $20 million in a Series C round from Ferd and Aker ASA along with 25 other investors that were not named in the announcement.
The company, which came out of stealth in September, was cofounded by Bård Anders Kasin, a former technical director at Warner Brothers, and Jens Petter Høili, founder of FairChance. For a long time, The Future Group remained under the radar but started to grab people’s attention in summer 2015 when it announced an $8.5 million funding round seemingly out of nowhere.
With its new funding, it plans to launch the Frontier Interactive Mixed Reality (IMR), a 3D visual effects platform, and introduce its IMR game show for television, which will be shown for the first time at the MIPTV forum in Cannes in 2017.
“As we prepare to enter 2017, we opened this round of funding to enable our final push into IMR, with both a content development platform in Frontier and as co-developer of a new game show that will redefine what is possible on network, primetime TV,” said Høili.
“The response from new and existing investors seeking to participate in this new round was both gratifying and exhilarating as we prepare to show the world our complete strategy, vision and most importantly – content.”
