The UK’s Nomad Digital, which provides ICT services to the rail sector, is being acquired by French railway systems manufacturer Alstom. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Nomad was previously owned by investors including Amadeus Capital Partners, SEB Venture Capital and Deutsche Telekom Strategic Investments. Nomad provides on-board connectivity services for passengers and staff and is based in Newcastle with offices in the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, US, Canada, and Australia. Its clients include Virgin Trains and Amtrak.
In a statement, Nomad said it would be working with Alstom to develop the “Digital Train”.
“From day-1 we will have a joined-up strategy and vision around the realisation of the ‘Digital Train’,” said Nomad CEO Andrew Taylor. “We look forward in the weeks and months ahead to strengthening our capabilities in this domain, and ensuring that we maintain our focus on delivering innovative solutions and services to both our current and new customers around the world”.
Amadeus Capital Partners were one of the first VCs to invest in Nomad in 2006. “We are delighted that a major rail company has recognised the value of Nomad’s visionary strategy, which has expanded to the fully ‘connected train’, and the global footprint they have achieved,” added Amadeus CEO Anne Glover.
The deal is expected to close in January.
