Amsterdam’s EV-Box, a supplier of electric vehicle charge points, has been acquired by French electric utility company ENGIE. The announcement was made today at rEVolution 2017; no terms were disclosed.
EV-Box supplies electric car charge points, along with management software, around the Netherlands and has expanded into 20 markets including Belgium, Scandinavia, Germany, the UK, and the US, with 40,000 charge stations. Its client base crosses both the public and private sector.
"EV-Box will continue to operate fully independently under its own brand,” said Kristof Vereenooghe, CEO of EV-Box. “With the development of a new generation of charging solutions and software as well as with the backing of ENGIE, we have all the ingredients to claim a worldwide leading position and bring our solution to millions of customers.” Vereenooghe will report to ENGIE’s executive vice president of research, technologies and innovation, Thierry Lepercq.
“ENGIE views EV-Box’s acquisition as a strategic step towards a completely new energy paradigm the world is shifting towards. It’s also ENGIE’s first major investment in one of our high-growth strategic priority areas,” commented Lepercq.
