Norwegian edtech gaming company Kahoot! has raised $10 million in an extension of its Series A round. This follows an initial tranche of funding last September of $10 million, bringing the total round to $20 million.
The round was led by a number of Norwegian private investors alongside existing investors Microsoft Ventures, Creandum, and Northzone.
The money will be invested in growing the company’s user base and revenue, said Eilert Hanoa, chairman of the board. This year the Oslo-based company reached more than 50 million monthly active users and it recently announced the beta version of its mobile app for teachers and students, which will launch at the start of the new school year.
“We are excited about increasing our investment in our commercial activities and in product development,” said CEO Erik Harrell, “including in mobile, with mobile being the ubiquitous platform that will enable learning anytime, anywhere among learners of all ages and in all contexts.”
“Kahoot’s mission to help transform education and inspire learning is aligned with Microsoft’s commitment to empower educators and students to reach their full potential,” added Nagraj Kashyap, corporate vice president of Microsoft Ventures.
In addition to this week’s funding round, Kahoot! recently joined Walt Disney’s accelerator, the only European company in the program.
