German LiDAR startup Blickfeld raises $5.7 million

Munich-based LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) startup Blickfeld has landed $5.7 million from existing investors OSRAM Ventures, High-Tech Gründerfonds, Tengelmann Ventures, and Unternehmertum Venture Capital Partners, bringing the total amount of funding to $10 million.

Founded in 2017, Blickfeld works on LiDAR sensors for environmental detection used in autonomous driving, robotics, and the Internet of Things applications. The company states that its patented technology “makes high-tech LiDAR devices suitable for mass production,” though it's yet to deliver to this promise.

“We have made very good progress with our LiDAR technology in recent months,” said Blickfeld co-founder and CEO, Dr Mathias Müller. “High international demand confirms the efficiency of the Blickfeld solution. The expansion in seed financing will enable us to bring our first series product to market even faster.”

The company's technology is based on commercial off-the-shelf components combined with its proprietary patented silicon micromirrors.

The company currently employs more than 35 people and is planning to grow all teams, hiring more engineers, automotive professionals, and computer scientists, as well as business developers and marketing and sales specialists.
