The automotive industry of today is facing disruption in many ways, from self-driving cars to alternative fuel types like hydrogen, to the rise of ride-sharing that could make personal vehicles much less in demand than they used to be. It seems, however, that the most innovative players in the industry are ready to embrace the new ways and do their best to stay up-to-date with the latest developments.

This year, the key industry players will gather at Mondial Tech, a tech-focused event organised by the famous Paris Motor Show dedicated to technological innovations for automobiles and tomorrow’s mobility. Automobile manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, Tech giants and startups coming together to deepen their collaboration to shape the future of transportation and mobility.

Held on October 2–6 (with a special event for the media and VIP participants on the 1st) at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles convention centre, Mondial Tech features a rich programme that includes a startup competition, a deep dive into the state of Autotech, and several side events.

State of the ecosystem

As part of the conference program,'s Natalie Novick will present our report on the state of Autotech in Europe in 2018. Before that happens, though, we've prepared an exclusive sneak peek into some key numbers for our readers.

As follows from the research, companies in Germany and Spain received a lot of funding lately, however, these numbers were mostly driven by two major deals—Auto1 and Cabify, respectively.

Another interesting observation is that the highest number of deals were closed by startups that fall into the categories of logistics and carsharing/taxis.

Reinventing the wheel

Apart from the ecosystem research, the five conference days at Mondial Tech will be packed with keynotes and panel discussions on the future of mobility. The conference aims at becoming an exchange platform for the stakeholders of the industry, bringing together all the managers and experts in charge of innovation in the sector with representatives of the government, the financial sector and the media.

Some of the speakers expected at the event include Eric Feunteun, director of Renault's electric vehicle and carsharing program; the mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi; Lakshmi Mandyam, vice president automotive at Arm; and many more.

There's also a special part of the programme for startups working in the automotive industry. The Mondial Tech Startup Awards could be the biggest startup contest in the industry, bringing 64 finalists from 30 countries to pitch on stage, competing for a chance to work with major players in their particular niche who sponsor different streams.

The competition is divided into eight innovation themes:

  • Sustainable Mobility (Sponsored by Transdev)
  • Electrification & hybridization (Sponsored by Magna International)
  • Material & weight reduction
  • On-board comfort & Well Being (sponsored by Faurecia)
  • Storage and energy systems (sponsored by Air Liquide)
  • Connectivity and ITS (Sponsored by Alliance Renault Nissan Mitsubishi)
  • Safety, automatization and cyber security (Sponsored by Atos)
  • Industry 4.0

After eight half-day pitching sessions, the startup awards will culminate with the grand finale on Friday night where the overall winner across all eight categories will be determined.

In addition to all that, the side events of Mondial Tech include CES Unveiled, an exclusive forum for business leaders and government officials, and Innovatech, a showcase of the best Israeli automotive innovations.

If you're working in the areas of transportation and mobility or just interested in what's coming next in the industry, don't miss this opportunity and get your tickets now.
