Estonian online authentication startup Veriff acquires BrowserID

Tallinn-based online identity verification startup Veriff has acquired BrowserID, an Estonian network intelligence company, for an undisclosed amount. BrowserID will continue providing its services to existing clients, while its founder Argo Mändmaa will stay at Veriff as the fraud product manager.

Founded in 2015, Veriff is an anti-fraud startup, which provides real-time ID, photo and video analysis. Simply speaking, a customer would need to take a selfie and show their government-issued ID to the camera in order to get verified.

Coming from the other side of things, BrowserID has developed “a technology that collects the comprehensive part of device-based data for fraud monitoring purposes,” said Veriff's founder and CEO Kaarel Kotkas, adding that “this expands fraud prevention benchmark beyond online identity verification based on facial recognition and document verification.”
