Berlin-based Brighter AI secures several million euros in funding to enable anonymised data processing in the cloud

Brighter AI Technologies, a deep-tech startup working to overcome the limitations of human and machine vision with artificial intelligence, has just closed a round of financing. The investment from eCAPITAL and Giesecke + Devrient Ventures will be used to accelerate product development and expand the startup’s team across engineering, sales, and marketing.

Since its inception in 2017, Brighter AI has developed a process that allows person-related features such as faces to be anonymised, while still providing valuable video analytics. With this approach of anonymising data through artificial neural networks, Brighter AI aims to solve the “data privacy vs. analytics dilemma” for more than 1.1 billion public cameras.

Willi Mannheims, managing partner at eCAPITAL, believes that "Brighter AI has solved a fundamental problem of privacy-compliant use and storage of image and video data" thanks to its Deep Natural Anonymisation (DNA) technology. The DNA technology enables public transportation providers and retailers to comply with regulatory requirements to protect people's privacy, but also, for the first time, enables data processing in the cloud.
