Germany-based sewing and textile e-tailer fabfab has announced the acquisition of Makerist, a Berlin startup behind a DIY platform with supplies, manuals, and online courses for hobbyists. The value of the deal is “in the double-digit million range,” fabfab stated in a press release.
fabfab claims that the acquisition creates the “world's largest digital platform for creative projects,” where DIY enthusiasts can get all the support and supplies they need. The two companies reportedly have a total of 2 million customers worldwide.
Following the acquisition, Makerist's co-founders Amber Riedl and Axel Heinz will stay on board and keep performing their usual duties, fabfab stated. The deal brings the total headcount at fabfab to 250 across two offices in Berlin and Schenefeld (near Hamburg).
