Australian voice AI company Dubber acquires UK-based Speik for $38 million

Australian communication platform Dubber has acquired UK-based mobile recording startup Speik for $38 million, assuming performance milestones are met. Dubber is a cloud-based call recording and voice AI technology. The acquisition furthers the Melbourne company’s “vision” of “dubbing the world’s networks and communications solutions to put AI on every phone, transforming voice data into a source of value for enterprises and governments globally” — which sounds shady to me. As for Speik, the profitable company was formed in 2019 through a merger of Aeriandi and Voxygen. Voxygen had been supplying a hardware-based recording platform to Telefonica UK Limited (O2), while Aeriandi had been providing PCI compliance solutions in conjunction with leading UK service providers such as Vodafone and Gamma. The telephony company will continue to operate independently from its headquarters in Oxford, retaining its 38 employees in the UK and Europe.
