Amsterdam-based Creative Fabrica, a social marketplace for crafters, has raised $7 million in Series A funding to continue expanding. The round was led by Felix Capital, joined by FJ Labs with continued participation of Peak Capital.
Creative Fabrica helps marketers, designers, creatives and hobbyists find the right content for certain projects. Founders Anca Stefan and Roemie Hillenaar used to run a digital agency together when they realised finding the right assets is a pain. When the Dutch company got started in 2016, the team created an online marketplace for digital assets, but now it operates as a wider platform of tools, resources and yes — shared inspiration. At the e-commerce platform’s core is a growing premium content marketplace of fonts and graphic assets. But it’s not just business. The startup sees itself in the seat of the ‘Passion Economy’, too. Beyond typical marketing needs, Creative Fabrica caters to all kinds of creative endeavors, covering a spectrum of craft verticals, from mainstream (like print-on-demand and logos) to more niche things like embroidery design or quilting.
In addition to tripling the team and expanding into new markets, the fresh funding will go to adding even more niches, such as yarning and kids crafts.
Frederic Court, founder and Managing Partner at Felix Capital, notes that, “the crafting and hobby market is still a developing market of the Passion Economy.”
So far the e-commerce platform has 1 million users. Though having seen sales in over 175 countries, Creative Fabrica is most popular in English-speaking realms. More than 60 percent of business comes from the US and another 20 percent from the UK, Canada and Australia.
