With the ballooning of the ultra-fast, to my door in less time than our competitor's industry, there were naturally meant to be some that went by the wayside. And so is the case with London’s Weezy which has been snapped up by Turkey’s Getir. The acquisition shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as Bloomberg reported just a few months back that the grocery delivery service had been shopping for a buyer.
The acquisition falls neatly in line with the company entering the UK market back in January of this year, now operating in 15 cities including Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool, with the purchase of Weezy, it’s clear that Getir is getting comfy.
The announcement of Getir’s purchase arrives just days after the company launched operations in the US, beginning in Chicago, with New York and Boston on tap.
Founded in 2015, our friends at Webrazzi remind me that this is Getir’s second acquisition just this year, having bought southern Europe’s BLOK back in July.
