Finnish gaming company BIT ODD has raised €5 million in a round led by European venture capital firm Index Ventures. The company plans to use the newly infused cash to further enhance mobile gaming.

Founded by Lasse Louhento, Jani Lintunen, and Taneli Oksama, BIT ODD aims to bring back the sense of wonder and weirdness to gaming, qualities the founders feel have been lost in the ‘gold rush’ of mobile games in recent years.

According to CEO and co-founder Lasse Louhento, BIT ODD wants to create engaging titles. “Our titles are not based on data but on feeling, on what stirs the soul, on visiting uncharted waters, on the ideas and artisanal touches and magical moments that make up a rich and unique player experience,” he said.

Index Ventures has a long history of backing successful mobile gaming groups. The company has a list of investments that includes King, Supercell, Roblox, and Dream Games. Sofia Dolfe, investor at Index added: “The startup’s sense of quirkiness, fun and creativity taps into something that’s fallen out of focus in gaming. Along with their track record of making genre-defining, break-out hits, we believe their first release will be something extraordinary.”
