Open source platform Edgee secures Pre-Seed funding for data transformation

Open source edge computing platform Edgee has raised $2.9 million in pre-seed funding from Serena and VentureFriends to accelerate its mission of transforming data collection and application performance through edge computing.

Founded by Sacha Morard, former CTO/CIO of Le Monde Group, and Gilles Raymond, a serial entrepreneur whose previous company, News Republic, was acquired by Cheetah Mobile, Edgee builds on their combined expertise in enterprise technology, innovation, and data management.

Gilles Raymond is also the founder of The Signal Networks Foundation, an initiative dedicated to protecting whistleblowers worldwide.

Edge computing, which shifts data processing closer to the user, enables faster applications with reduced latency.

By leveraging this model, Edgee is tackling critical challenges in modern data processing and application performance, empowering developers to build more responsive, accurate, and privacy-compliant applications.

Solving the data collection dilemma: "The Big Lie"

One of the most pressing challenges Edgee addresses is what it calls "The Big Lie": traditional data collection solutions miss 25 per cent of users and 30 per cent of total usage due to ad blockers, privacy regulations, and performance issues.

By shifting data collection from devices to the edge, Edgee ensures complete and accurate data capture, empowering businesses to make reliable decisions without sacrificing performance or privacy compliance.

Edgee harnesses edge computing to deliver full data visibility without performance trade-offs. Processing data at the edge enables developers to bypass limitations tied to on-device analytics, all while ensuring privacy and complying with regulations.

The platform includes a free data collection audit tool, WebAssembly components for the edge, and managed service for easy deployment.

"We’re building an open platform for edge computing," said Sacha, co-CEO of Edgee. "We believe this is the first step toward providing developers with a full range of edge services, from AI to cybersecurity, powered by an open ecosystem."

With $2.9 million in funding, Edgee will expand its platform and engage more deeply with the global developer community. This investment enables the company to accelerate its roadmap, deliver new edge computing components, and foster innovation in edge-powered applications.

Further, Edgee envisions an open source ecosystem that extends beyond data collection to include AI-powered analytics, real-time processing, and robust cybersecurity solutions.

“We’re committed to building a transparent, collaborative ecosystem,” added Gilles, co-CEO of Edgee.

“By inviting developers from around the world to contribute to our open-source platform, we’re lowering the barriers to entry and helping businesses of all sizes realise the full potential of edge computing."
