Finnish startup Unikie collects €12 million to scale software for self-driving vehicles

Finnish deep tech startup Unikie has closed a €12 million funding round to scale its automatic driving software around the world. The growth capital came from two Finnish investment firms, CapMan Growth and Tesi. Founded five years ago, the Nordic software startup works in four main segments: the automotive industry, smart machinery, industry 4.0 and telecommunications. The company’s major product is Unikie AI Vision, a comprehensive automatic driving (AD) solution that investors want to help scale. “Our competence includes embedded development, device and edge processing combined with IT systems, and the data security solutions that cross them all,” says Esko Mertsalmi, the startup’s current CEO and founding partner.

So far about one third of the company’s turnover comes from international markets. With the new capital, Unikie wants to maintain its 30 percent annual growth rate and extend its reach across other international markets. To prepare for this growth stage, the company has switched up its CEO. Seppo Kuula, an experienced business manager and Doctor of Technology, will start in his new leadership role early next year.
