IoT Tribe will mark the culmination of its Space Endeavour accelerator programme next week on February 9 with a virtual event featuring startups, investors and corporate partners.

The event, where seven startups that participated in this cohort will present, provides a snapshot for investors of the technological innovation taking place in the space industry.

IoT Tribe accelerator programmes find and support high-potential startups, providing equity-free mentoring for IoT entrepreneurs. This latest programme is unique, focusing on the convergence of space and technology. The next decade will be pivotal for this industry with startups building hardware and software in the ever-growing commercial space market.

Investors need to keep their finger on the pulse of this change.

Nimble and innovative startups can develop and scale new technologies in ways that bigger companies can’t and many investors have taken notice of how this can be applied to the space sector.

According to figures from Space Capital, investment in space tech topped $25.6 billion in 2020, a record year for funding despite the obvious economic challenges of the pandemic.

Recent years have seen VC firms take more of an interest in space – with global commercial revenues from space tech up to $300 billion, it’s easy to see why – and the young startups that have big potential to make a mark. Expect to see this investment trend to continue.

Next week Space Endeavour’s event – which is free to attend – will bring together startups working in the space industry and the investors and corporates to promote more deal making and entrances into new markets.

The virtual event, which is being coordinated by digital transformation agency BluSpecs, will feature pitches, presentations and panel discussions from industry players.

Seven startups will be on hand to present their work after completing the lengthy accelerator programme to refine their products, get investor ready and prepare for entering new markets.

One of those companies is ARX Alliance, a cybersecurity firm in the UK, which develops tools for monitoring and managing security of supply chains.

Another is Spain’s Fossa Systems, which is building open source pocketqube satellites – from design to launch and operation. It launched its first satellite, FOSSASAT-1, in December 2019.

The other startups from around Europe that took part in the accelerator are:

  • Latitudo40 (Italy) – generating data from satellite images
  • Asvin (Germany) – cybersecurity SaaS solution for IoT vendors
  • Geckomatics (Belgium) – AI-powered mobile mapping
  • HD-Signs (France) – hyperlocal logistic data for optimised route planning
  • Secapem (France) – AI and IoT for the defence sector

Startups will mingle with corporate speakers and VCs from the IoT and space sectors to open dialog with potential partners and investors. Some of the guest speakers on hand include Frank Salzgeber, Head of Innovation and Ventures Office at the European Space Agency; Americo Lenza, Portfolio Director of Hive at British Gas; and Martin Gonzalez, Investment Manager at Nekko VC.

The event is run in partnership with Cluj IT Cluster and Politehnica University of Bucharest in Romania, SAFE Cluster in France and Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena in Spain.

It takes place on February 9, kicking off at 10m CET, and is free to attend – sign up here.
