Sweden’s Goodlifeme AB, the company behind health app SidekickHealth, has raised $1.5 million from Icelandic fund Frumtak Ventures. Other unnamed shareholders also participated in the round.
SidekickHealth is a “gamified health-behaviour change platform” for staying on top of conditions related to diabetes, heart disease, and obesity, developed in collaboration with medical researchers from Harvard and MIT. According to the company, it uses AI principles and guidelines from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to provide coaching lessons for users dealing with their illnesses.
The app has garnered traction in Sweden, Iceland, and the US, it said. The company is based in Sweden with Icelandic founders.
The investment will be used to expand further into the US, said CEO Tryggvi Thorgeirsson.
“ompanies and health organizations can more accurately predict and prevent negative health events, and increase the enrolment and success of in-person lifestyle-change programs,” said Thorgeirsson on organisations and patients using the app.
“SidekickHealth’s solution for predicting, managing and eliminating risk factors associated with lifestyle-related diseases by combining cutting-edge A.I., mobile technologies and scientific methodologies with engaging content and incentives presents a significant opportunity to positively impact the wellbeing of employees and patients," added Eggert Claessen, managing partner of Frumtak Ventures, "while also reducing health-related overhead costs for enterprise companies and organizations globally.”
