Sophos, the Oxford, UK-based network security giant, has acquired SurfRight, a small Dutch company that specialises in security software for the Windows platform.
Sophos coughed up $31.8 million in cash for the acquisition of SurfRight, and will retain all of its employees and the company's office in Hengelo, The Netherlands.
Founded in 2006 and self-reportedly profitable, SurfRight has developed a suite of products that prevent, detect and remediate zero-day and others attacks by interrupting malware and advanced persistent threat vectors. Its poular HitmanPro malware scanning and removal tools are used by more than 20 million users worldwide.
Sophos says the acquisition of the company will further solidify its endpoint protection technology, by adding complementary new defense tactics, delivered either on-premise or in the cloud.
The publicly listed British company, which boasts more than 100 million users, says it will immediately work to integrate SurfRight's technology into its line of endpoint security solutions, and later make it available via its global network of more than 15,000 channel partners.
