London fintech firm GoCardless has raised $22.5 million led by Accel with participation from existing investors Balderton Capital, Notion, and Passion.
GoCardless is an international payments solution for businesses to accept recurring payments globally and in any currency. The injection of new cash will be used to enable more markets to make and accept payments through GoCardless. It’s currently available in the eurozone, the UK, Sweden, Denmark, and Australia and has processed $4 billion in transactions.
“As more and more businesses become international, they face endless frustrations in managing payments across multiple territories,” said Hiroki Takeuchi, CEO of GoCardless. “What we have engineered is a way to simply plug recurring payments into their existing systems, across the world, so they can focus on the challenges that really matter.”
With the investment, GoCardless has added some new names to its team: Carlos Gonzales-Cadenas has been appointed chief product and technology officer, formerly of Skyscanner, and Andrew Gilboy has been appointed chief revenue officer, formerly of Demandware.
“We look for businesses solving real problems and using tech to make cumbersome processes scalable. GoCardless has already demonstrated tremendous growth in this area, and recent hires at the senior level show it is building the business to own this sector,” added Accel’s Martin Gibson.
