German medtech startup heartbeat medical raises €3 million

Cologne-based heartbeat medical has raised €3 million from HV Holtzbrinck Ventures and High-Tech Gründerfonds.

The company develops heartbeat ONE, a patient-reported outcomes (PROs) software that tracks and follows up with patients and helps doctors compare data sets on patient outcomes. The software is currently being used with 50,000 patients in Charité university hospital in Berlin and two of Germany’s largest private hospital chains, Sana and Helios.

Yannik Schreckenberger, CEO of heartbeat medical, said healthcare systems rely too much on assessing care based on whether any errors were made. “A lack of errors doesn’t mean a patient had a good outcome or benefited from the treatment,” said Schreckenberger.

The new funds will be invested in improving the software’s data analysis functions.

“We will optimize our processes and give our customers even better access to important treatment data. At the end of the day, patients will benefit the most, as physicians will be able to make personalized, data-driven decisions faster in the future,” added Schreckenberger.
