Swedish travel tech startup Triple acquires rival Local Guddy

Swedish travel marketplace Triple has acquired Turkey’s Local Guddy, a rival company in the space. No terms were disclosed.

The travel marketplaces connect travellers with locals to find unique experiences in each location. Emre Semercioğlu, Local Guddy’s founder, will be joining Triple as head of market growth. Coachsurfing CEO Casey Fenton will also be joining Triple as a board member as part of the deal.

“After we got to know Emre and the work he’s been doing with Local Guddy to date, we realised very quickly that there was a synergy between us and our vision, Local Guddy having a key strength in host acquisition and community, that compliments our expert team, experience and growth strategy,” said Joakim Grönvall, CEO of Triple, which raised a $500,000 round three months ago.

“This acquisition will allow us to combine forces, and scale quicker to become a key player in the travel experience market,” he said.

“We complement each other strategically, and the acquisition felt like a natural step. Istanbul has been a great hub for us to work from, and joining Stockholm’s strong tech ecosystem is absolutely a benefit for the company,” added Semercioğlu.
