Vitesy, an Italian-founded startup producing IoT devices that purify the air, has raised €1.2 million to speed up commercial distribution and the development of a new at-home consumer product called Eteria. Founded in 2015, the company’s team of scientists, engineers and designers have created smart devices that monitor and eliminate indoor air pollution. “We are showing that hardware startups are possible in Italy,” says co-founder and CEO, Paolo Ganis. The devices are built on three technologies: phytoremediation, the use of plants to filter pollutants; photocatalysis, a new nanomaterial effective in killing viruses and bacteria; and (of course) proprietary software, algorithms that process the air quality data from sensors to offer services to companies and institutions. Eteria is portable, designed for living spaces, and available for pre-order on IndieGogo. The bridge funding was a combination of equity and debt. Online investment platform Doorway led the round, raising €500,000 through its community of investors, and other business angels chipped in another €500,000. The last €200,000 was received in the form of a bridging loan.
