Telefónica’s innovation hub Wayra and sports-related startup incubator and accelerator SportBoost have announced a collaboration to jointly invest in sport-tech-related companies.
More specifically, the joint venture is targeting metaverse, smart stadiums, data analytics, eSports, streaming or home fitness-related tech, and is offering tickets in the size of up to €700,000 jointly or up to €350,000 individually.
This announcement comes as a seal of approval for SportBoost, a relatively new accelerator founded by Iker Casillas, deputy director general at Real Madrid Foundation, that in addition to the provided capital, will give cohort participants access to a unique network of renowned professional sports world mentors.
“Working together with Wayra and Telefónica is a luxury and represents a giant step forward. Thanks to this collaboration we will be able to find, detect and help the best startups in the entrepreneurial ecosystem within the world of sports. Luckily in Spain there are many young entrepreneurs with great projects that need a push. Well, between Wayra and SportBoost we are going to give it to,” commented Iker.
The first call is now open, with startups able to submit proposals at both Wayra and SportBoost until April 20.
“The collaboration with Sportboost will help us to drive new projects in a sector characterized by constant technological disruption to help not only professional athletes to improve their performance and break new records but also all fans in general to improve their well-being and enjoy sport in multiple areas,” concluded Telefónica’s chief digital officer Chema Alonso.
