Barcelona’s insomnia-fighting app Moonoa has raised €1.54 million in a seed round led by the Seedrocket 4founders fund. The raise also saw participation from K Fund and Cabiedes, alongside Angel Investors Eneko Knorr, Albert Armengol, Albert Serrano, Mario Bruggeman, and Jose Marcilla.
Moonoa is founded by serial entrepreneurs Pablo Szefner, Caroline Jacquet, Fanny Dubrule, and David Rodriguez Ureña, and according to Ureña'ss bio, the company was founded (?) in October of last year.
Now let’s face facts, if you’re reading this article, I can guarantee with 49% accuracy that you’ve had trouble getting to sleep at some point or another in the past 12 months. A figure Moonoa reports as having grown by more than 20% since the beginning of the pandemic. With more than 100,00 deaths per year in Europe alone, cardiovascular diseases and obesity all attributed to lack of sleep, Moonoa is taking on a silent crisis gripping the world.
Staring the problem right in the face, Moonoa uses cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-i) and has conducted over 100 clinical studies resulting in 90% of patients reporting better sleep, and more than 80% leaving the sleeping pills for another day. Moonoa’s offering has been certified as a medical device by both the Spanish Medicines Agency and the European Union.
In addition to an app that offers over 1,000 different content pieces to help drift you off to sleep, Moonoa also provides a food supplement sent to customers on a monthly basis based on their profile.
“Our platform arises as a response to the drama of insomnia and its exponential growth with the emergence of Covid-19. Telemedicine has several advantages over traditional medicine as it facilitates access, reduces costs and significantly reduces waiting times,” comments CEO Pablo Szefner. “We are excited to bring new partners into the project, to execute our vision and to help more people have a better quality of life.”
