London startup Blueheart raises £1 million to destigmatise sex therapy and treat 'invisible market'

Blueheart, a London-based sex therapy app, has raised £1 million in a seed round led by PROfounders Capital, joined by Calm/Storm. The funding will be used to expand the available suite of therapy sessions, continue therapeutic research and develop the app’s personalisation capabilities through AI.

While many sextech solutions focus on pleasure, Blueheart focuses on dysfunction. With the tagline “no humans, no stigma”, the app offers evidence-based therapy sessions to address a wide range of sexual issues often seen as taboo. Sessions are delivered via audio and written materials, which are designed by sex therapist Dr. Katherine Hertlein, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Couple and Relationship Therapy. Dr. Hertlein is joining the startup as their expert advisor.

“There’s a lot of noise in the wellness and ‘self-improvement’ market, but very few offerings focus on evidence-based solutions which match the efficacy of in-person therapy,” says Rogan Angelini-Hurll, the general partner at PROfounders who is joining the startup’s board. “What really excited us was that Blueheart caters for an enormous but invisible market which isn't being served by anyone else.”

The goal is to improve the sex lives of 100 million people, says CEO Sachin Raoul. Founded one year ago, the startup envisions an inclusive platform that caters to all sexual orientations and gender identities, but for now they're focused on women in relationships experiencing low libido.
