Seeking to better connect municipal governments and citizens, Bratislava-founded Simplicity has raised $8.5 million in seed funding. The new investment will be used to further propel the startups’ expansion in the US market. Over the course of two rounds, the company has raised a total of $9.7 million.

Founded in 2019 by Andrej Krupa and Juraj Gago, Simplicity acts as a source of truth; collecting, aggregating, and delivering critical and official updates from local governments directly to residents’ devices. In other words, in a sea of fake news, Simplicity wants to be the liferaft.

“Residents need one source delivering relevant, local updates from trusted sources in real-time. Simplicity is that source. All in one place. No ads. No fake information. No privacy issues. Delivered in real-time. Always accessible on your smartphone,” commented Krupa.

Simplicity is now in use by over 100 cities in Europe and Israel, and with more than 80% of all Americans receiving their information via digital devices, it’s clear where the company is heading next.

The $8.5 million seed round was led by Venture to Future Fund, with participation from Zero Gravity Capital, and an angel syndicate.

“Simplicity provides the most efficient platform for communication between the municipality and its citizens. Compared to social media, it does not act upon false information or unverified sources but rather provides users with reliable updates. In addition, it involves people in public/local life and improves interaction with local governments, which supports the smart city concept,” commented Venture to Future Fund’s Matej Riha.
