Micromobility operator Zipp Mobility has closed a €1.3 million funding round. Currently operating e-scooter programmes in 8 cities in Poland and 5 in the UK, the latest round of funding will be used to expand into additional European countries, including the startups’ own home market of Ireland. To date, the firm has raised just over €2 million.
Founded in 2019 by Charlie Gleeson, Zipp is already in discussions with a number of regional authorities in advance of the expected legalisation of e-scooters on Irish roads.
“Over the last two years we have been in discussions with Irish local authorities, and we have been sharing our international experience with them to ensure that scooter-sharing schemes are rolled out safely and responsibly once e-scooters are legalised in Ireland,” commented Gleeson.
Zipp Mobility’s latest funding arrives via a combination of investments. €500,000 was received from two angel investors, one of whom is current Workhuman chairman and Balderton Capital founding partner Barry Maloney. €250,000 was provided by Enterprise Ireland, and a crowdfunding campaign netted €562,000.
