It’s no laughing matter: Yahaha Studios raises $50 million, aims to launch no-code metaverse

Finland’s Yahaha Studios has raised $50 million in a new funding round. The platform provides both developers and players the ability to build, publish, host, and operate 3D interactive multiplayer games. Building upon three previous rounds of fundraising, the newest influx of capital will be used to further develop the platform, a portion of which includes a metaverse game creation tool, which it plans to launch in early 2022. To date, Yahaha has raised a total of $81 million.

Founded in 2020 by experienced Unity gaming engine veterans Chris Zhu (CEO), Pengfei Zhang (COO), and Hao Min (CTO), Yahaha puts the power of game creation in the hands of players and developers alike. The platform offers an open and modular set of online services, all aimed at providing the ability to distribute creations across all platforms and connect with other gamers and game creators.

Officially headquartered in Finland, arguably Europe’s gaming Mecca, research and development is conducted on mainland China and business development in South Korea.

“Achieving an investment of $50 million is incredibly exciting for us. Yahaha Studios has a key part to play in ushering in the next generation of entertainment as the metaverse continues to grow,” commented CEO Chris Zhu. “Connecting users around the world through virtual entertainment, Yahaha offers a uniquely creative and social experience to game developers and gamers alike. We’re really looking forward to fully launching this year, growing our team, and bringing the first stage of our vision for the future of content creation to life.”

No word was provided as to where the $50 million comes from, but this investor, or investors, join previous investors that include New York-based Coatue.
