Omnipresent, an UK-based platform that helps remote companies comply with employment laws wherever their workers live, has raised $2 million in seed funding. The round was led by Playfair Capital and Episode 1, with participation from Entrepreneur First, Truesight Ventures and some angels. With the new funding, the London business aims to reach a total of 80 markets by the end of this year.
Omnipresent offers what co-founder and co-CEO Matt Wilson refers to as a “global employment-as-a-service offering,” a combination of an ‘automation-focused’ tech platform and a network of legal firms around the world. Essentially the service helps manage payroll, benefits, compliance, taxes and other admin for international teams. As many companies embrace remote working (or grudgingly accept it) as a result of the pandemic, they’re encountering new legal obstacles, says the startup. “Covid-19 has shed light on the opportunity for a new way of working and businesses have to adapt to it or face extinction,” says other co-founder and co-CEO, Dr. Guenther Eisinger, a former Major in the Austrian Special Forces. Lead investors agree. Carina Namih, General Partner at Episode 1 commented: “I’ve experienced these challenges firsthand as the CEO of a business with my team spread across several jurisdictions. Now as a board member of several rapidly growing businesses, I see management grappling with these challenges time and again. Omnipresent’s solution is sorely needed.”
