Hamburg, Germany-based online and mobile games maker Bigpoint has been acquired by the publicly-listed Chinese games developer and publisher Youzu Interactive for 80 million euros. If all goes well, the transaction will be completed by mid-April.

Bigpoint was founded back in 2002 and has specialised in free-to-play online games. If it had made the transition to mobile more successfully, it would have likely fetched a much higher price (contrast its acquisition price with the value given to the likes of King and Supercell by their respective buyers).

Bigpoint's games include Seafight, DarkOrbit Reloaded, Farmerama, Drakensang and Shards of War.

The studio employs hundreds of people across its offices in Hamburg, Berlin, Lyon, Istanbul, Seoul, San Francisco and Malta.

Bigpoint recently opened a Seoul office in Korea and inked a partnership with Tencent in China that saw the company's titles (finally) reach audiences in Asia.
