Poland’s GetResponse shows how to make it without VC money

Gdańsk, Poland's principal seaport situated in the Baltic sea, is part of an extended urban area with the city of Gdynia, spa town of Sopot, and other communities, which together comprise a metropolitan area called the Tricity with a population of 1.4 million.

Gdańsk is also home to one of the country’s biggest and most successful startups, GetResponse, an email marketing and marketing automation software for SMB’s. Based in Gdańsk, the company sets itself a part from companies in the marketing technology space usually based in startup hubs of Silicon Valley, Berlin, and other global hubs.

GetResponse is entirely bootstrapped with no external funding. When asked why the company has not taken in any external investment to speed up the pace of scale, founder and CEO Simon Grabowski does not see an upside.
