Danish eyetracking company The Eye Tribe has been acquired by Facebook and Oculus.
Founded in 2011, the tech company has developed a $99 kit for computers to develop eyetracking devices, and software that allows smartphones and potentially virtual reality headsets to respond to eye movement.
In the past few years, The Eye Tribe had received roughly $3 million from investors and $2.3 million in a grant from The Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation. The company is currently focused on hiring more developers on its SDK to build applications that benefit from eyetracking.
Google also recently acquired an eyetracking company called Eyefluence.
Although Oculus has confirmed the deal, no announcements have been made with regards to the amount of the deal or what the company will do with the technology.
