Language learning app, busuu, has partnered with VR company Oculus to release virtual reality game The Hacienda.
The game allows users learning Spanish at beginners’ level to practice and learn the language in a virtual environment where players interact with a family during a fiesta featuring different challenges for the player to pass using their Spanish language skills.
“We were thrilled to be approached by Oculus to partner in this new space,” said Bernhard Niesner, CEO of busuu, “I am convinced that virtual reality is a great way to improve your language skills and we are excited to offer our users a fully immersive language learning experience without leaving their homes.”
busuu, which is based in the UK and has raised over $11 million in VC funding, has a number of partners including Google where it provides language courses through Google Home Assistant.
In January, it announced a partnership with Uber to develop English language courses for its drivers to meet regulations set by Transport for London.
Uber is of course butting heads with London right now over losing its license to operate in the city, one of its biggest markets. The partnership continues with busuu though while the company has also started working with Uber competitor Cabify in Mexico on a similar initiative, said Niesner, and is exploring further deals with sharing economy firms and call centres.
