Digital health startup Oviva has announced a funding round of $12 million from Albion Capital, Eight Roads Ventures, F-Prime Capital Partners, Partech Ventures, and Walking Ventures.
Oviva, which is based in London and Zurich, is a digital health app for diet-related conditions like diabetes, obesity, and food allergies where patients directly communicate with dietitians and track their diets, weight, and activity.
“Behaviour change is the safest and most cost-effective way of both preventing and managing diet related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes and obesity,” said Lucy Jones, head of dietetics at Oviva.
“With our technology, patients are empowered to take a leading role in managing their health,” she said. “Their communication using the technology allows the dietitian more understanding into their health and lifestyle who are then enabled to deliver care focused on the patient’s needs and priorities.”
The startup was founded in 2014 and has 20,000 users in the UK, Switzerland, and Germany. It works with the British Dietetic Association and the German Society for Nutrition and was recently selected for NHS England’s Digital Diabetes Prevention Programme.
The new money will be used to expand in Europe and further develop the product.
“With the additional funding, we can refine our systems and gain deeper insights into the most successful techniques to help people change their behaviour,” said CEO Kai Eberhardt.
