Content curation app Listory launches with $4 million in seed funding

Listory, an Israeli-founded startup trying to transform content curation, has launched with a $4 million seed funding round led by Viola Ventures, Globis Capital and Rhodium. The company, which is headquartered in New York, was founded in March 2020 by Yaniv Gilad and Yaron Galai after completing a management buyout from Outbrain. In a world of endless media output and consumption, Listory wants to provide a newsfeed that’s stocked with quality, relevant content. It’s developed iOS, Android and web apps that curate articles, videos or podcasts according to the user’s taste. The company’s ‘refinery engine’ extracts the most recommended stories, from authoritative newsletters and experts in each field. The stories are then further refined according to recommendations by social contacts and the amount of time spent reading them.

In a press release, Listory says it “filters the internet to a small handful of stories to perfectly suit your needs and desires.” Cutting down on digital noise and distraction sounds great, but in a world of ‘alternative facts’, creating media echo chambers is a scary prospect. Let’s see if Listory can strike the balance.
