Brussels-based startup Urbeez has secured €2.5 million in funding to roll out a slew of 100% electric delivery vehicles across Belgium in 2021.
Remarkably, the e-cargo delivery startup was only founded about two months ago, building a fleet of electric cargo bikes, vans, scooters etc. and signing up initial partners up until now.
It helps that the founder of the company is Angelino Capretti, whose last job was managing the Southern European activities for micro-mobility scale-up TIER Mobility, which gives him experience and insights into a space that still has a lot of potential for innovations to thrive in.
It also helps that Urbeez is at the intersection of a number of fast-growing trends, including the boom in e-commerce, the rising need of fast and efficient delivery systems, and the drive towards more climate-friendly sustainability initiatives in retail, logistics and cities alike.
The young company already works with major retail players such as IKEA and supermarket chain Colruyt, but also with local initiatives such as Brussels’Kitchen.
"With Urbeez, we want to reassess the logistics sector, and transform the entire distribution network to make it electric. This will allow us to improve service delivery and quality in a sector under extreme pressure," Capretti said in a statement.
Somewhat oddly, the investors in the round were not named, but are said to be 'specializing in logistics'.
