Stockholm-based last-mile deliveries for e-commerce company Instabox has acquired Dutch firm Red je Pakketje, and now establishes a strong presence in the market. While officially announced today, the acquisition closed in mid-April. Red je Pakketje founders Sam Rohn, Tijs van Driel, and Kay Rohn will stay on with the new company and are reportedly reinvesting parts of their proceeds into Instabox. Financials of the deal remain undisclosed.
“When we researched the Dutch market we quickly saw that Red je Pakketje has done an amazing job in creating a premium, same-day shipping service that consumers love,” commented Instabox CEO and founder Alexis Priftis. “I’m especially excited about working with the team since they share our consumer obsession and our passion for making deliveries green.”
Founded in 2015 in Stockholm, Instabox has one of the largest parcel locker box networks across the Nordics. Its partner list includes retail giants H&M and IKEA, as well as well-known brands Apotea and Boozt. The firm counts more than 2,000 automated lockers in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, and has shown an impressive growth rate of over 300% per year, putting it on par with some of the fastest-growing startups in Europe.
Red je Pakketje was founded in 2016 and has focused on same-day deliveries, mainly in the evening/after work hours. An equally impressive growth trend, the firm has doubled in size year-over-year consecutively and confirms daily deliveries from over 1,600 e-commerce outlets across the Netherlands.
"This acquisition will enable us to further speed up our growth and offer the fastest most complete delivery solution on the market, whether the customer chooses to receive their parcel at home or to a locker,” comments Rohn. “We know that 77% percent of shopping carts are abandoned due to a lack of preferred delivery options. We hope to be able to fix that and change an industry that has been shaped by traditional postal companies."
