Bucharest-based travel app Framey has raised $1 million in seed funding and is seeking to provide a new way of adventure planning. Building upon the emotional power of beautiful imagery, Framey provides users with all the tools they need to create travel itineraries. The funding will be used to scale up operations and launch globally later this summer.
Framey was founded in 2019 by Robert Preoteasa and Alexandru Iulian Florea, and it should go without saying that timing is everything. Or in the case of Framey, nothing. A global pandemic certainly put the brakes on a social network-based travel app pretty darn quickly. However, the founders state that they used this time to further refine the Framey offering, as well as source the funds needed to support its development.
“We enjoy being close to our audience, understanding their needs, and working to inspire them to discover new places, through inspirational pictures. We are focusing on the power of visuals, as we believe this is what inspires people to discover and visit new places around the world. So far, we’ve received amazing feedback from the beta testers and creators we’ve been collaborating with,” commented Iulian Florea.
An interesting proposition, to be sure, particularly in an environment where Instagram has shifted to a position where it will, “no longer be referred to as the “square photo-sharing app with filters” it once was,” and Revolut is making strides towards its super app ambitions with the recent launch of a travel feature.
Framey’s seed funding round was led by ICE Capital and backed by Romanian VC firm JECO Capital.
