Bfore.AI has closed on a Series A fundraise that raised north of €4 million to deliver AI-driven predictive cybersecurity, stopping intrusions into enterprise IT networks well before they occur.
Estonia's Karma VC and France-headquartered Karista both led the round. They were joined by multiple unnamed participants, angel investors billed as C-level veterans of Fortune500 corporations, while Addendum Capital participated as an institutional investor.
Headquarters in Montpellier, France, Bfore.AI launched in 2019 to deliver actionable intelligence insights to enterprises, focusing on predictive models that can see vulnerable vectors into enterprise cyber networks.
The startup claims just 0.05% of identified cyber breaches are false positives avoiding stoppages that come at a heavy cost to IT-led enterprises.
A 2016 study by Cybersecurity Ventures predicted global damages from cyber breaches last year would reach $6 trillion and there's no shortage of clever tech around Europe playing for market share.
The core of Bfore.AI's software was based on a decade-long research programme and was funded through the French research ministry's iLAB grant regime.
Since then the team have doubled down on product capabilities; in February joining hands with the Quad9 crew in Switzerland to integrate the latter's DNS intrusion blocking.
Bfore.AI's engine is known as the PreCrime Network and is said to include forecasting capabilities that spot threats in hours, not weeks, thanks to oodles of machine learning data.
Data can usually be refined and Bfore.AI is working to do just that; as part of the Quad9 deal it has requested telemetry data on how often incoming DNS data are filtered.
Bfore.AI's partnership ecosystem also includes the Global Cyber Alliance and DNS security provider ThreatStop, as well as CDRF Labs, a website flagging lab headquartered in Paris.
The series A funding will go to an expansion drive, bringing new features for northern European markets and North America.
