Satellite imaging and intelligence startup Bird.i, based in Glasgow and London, has raised $2.6 million led by Accelerated Digital Ventures with participation from Concrete VC, Frontline Ventures, Satellite Application Catapult Services, and the Scottish Investment Bank.
The startup provides real-time imaging and intelligence to businesses taken from satellites and now plans to scale the business globally.
The solution is used for monitoring changes on the ground by infrastructure operators, urban planners, and investment firms, including Thomson Reuters which uses it to track building projects around the world. Finance sector firms use it to monitor the transport of commodities.
Images taken from space and the sky should be made more accessible and affordable for everyone, said Corentin Guillo, founder of Bird.i, who has a background in aviation and aerospace companies.
“This additional investment will enable us to continue developing our technology, grow the company and expand our product portfolio,” added Guillo. “As well as building on our existing offering, we believe there is huge potential for Bird.i to make an impact in additional industries, such as travel and tourism, and expand to mass market consumer services in the near future.”
