Dirac, a Swedish company developing software to enhance audio performance, has raised a $6 million funding round from Inbox Kapital, Swedia Capital, and Johan Sedihn, and new investor DIG Investment. Former Spotify executive and angel investor Jonathan Forster is joining the company’s board. Dirac recently launched a digital sound software, accompanied by a mobile app, that can enhance the performance of any headphone set. “This headphone technology is just one of the many pieces of our intelligent audio platform which digitally upgrades any kind of sound experience,” explained CEO Mathias Johansson. The company’s technology, which combines signal processing with machine learning, is used across consumer sectors — by blue chip brands in the smartphone, PC, home theater markets, by luxury car manufacturers such as BMW and Rolls Royce, as well as in the studios of professional DJs and producers. Founded in Uppsala in 2001, Dirac has an R&D center in Copenhagen and other business offices in Shenzhen, Beijing, and Shanghai. Last year the company raised $13.2 million from existing investors. With this new round, the audio company will focus on the new headphone technology while continuing to develop other solutions that can layer on top of any content and any device. Ex-Spotify executive and newly appointed board member Forster commented: “Thanks to music streaming platforms, hundreds of millions of people around the world are consuming more music than ever before. Dirac's technology gives each of these people the chance to enjoy the experience through better sound, regardless of how they're listening.”
