London’s social media and content planning platform ContentCal to be acquired by Adobe

ContentCal, which provides businesses, both small and large, with a unified platform for social media and content planning has announced an agreement to be acquired by industry titan Adobe. The financials of the deal were not disclosed, with the transaction expected to close in the first fiscal quarter of 2022.

As we’ve seen an explosion of the Creator Economy over the course of the pandemic, a major factor in this is the reliance on social media marketing to reach new audiences. Now, creators get into the business of creation, and not necessarily marketing. This is where ContentCal steps in, and clearly, Adobe wants in on the action.

ContentCal, which raised $6.2 million in a Series A round this past May, was founded Alex Packham, former social media manager at Odeon and UCI Cinemas, and then at SKY’s NowTV. Setting off on his own in 2014, he set up social media and digital agency ASTP UK. His title of founder and CEO of ContentCal commenced in April of 2016, and the following year, officially merged ASTP UK into ContentCal.

“We started ContentCal knowing that the Creator Economy had the potential to fundamentally change the way people work. Today our technology is being used by some incredible businesses, entrepreneurs, and creatives,” commented Packham. “Joining Adobe is a fantastic outcome because we’re bringing our technology to a global platform and will be able to share the power of ContentCal with creators no matter where they are.”

The acquisition also signals an exit for investors Fuel Ventures and Guinness Asset Management.
