Moscow-based video and Web conferencing software maker Webinar.ru has secured a rather large Series A round of financing ($7.3 million) led by Intel Capital and EBRD.

Prior backer VTB Capital and Flint Capital also chipped in.

Webinar.ru claims thousands of corporate clients, including a Russian online search giant, Microsoft and local telecom giant Rostelecom. The company says more than 1 million people now participate in webinars using the company’s platform each month.

Its software is available either on the cloud or on-premise, requires no installations and plays well with a range of devices. The company uses its own content delivery network, which it posits provides users with secure and reliable data transfer within their meetings.

The company also provides online broadcasting services under the brand name of COMDI (with which it merged in 2012), using its proprietary platform for video broadcasting.

The fresh cash will be used to 'strengthen its position and accelerate R&D' but Webinar.ru is also exploring opportunities to expand to new markets.
