Spirent, the California-based company that specialises in verification, analytics and device intelligence solutions, has acquired Epitiro, a Welsh company that offers quality monitoring and benchmarking solutions for WiFi and ethernet connections.
That makes sense: service providers and enterprises increasingly rely on WiFi to provide users with HQ voice, video and data services and access to business-critical applications, but many of them are not sufficiently aware of the end-user experience. This is where Epitiro comes in: its Web-based platform provides continuous visibility of the WiFi experience by performing tests that emulate realistic user activities (such as browsing Facebook, sharing files and whatnot).
Headquartered in Cardiff, Epitiro was founded in 2000 by Gavin Johns and JP Curley. The company was already a partner of Spirent, which led to experience monitoring system deployments at multiple customers, including an unnamed 'tier 1' US service provider.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
