Copenhagen-based Develop Diverse has secured a €2.5 million investment from Seed Capital and angel investor Michael Halbye. The startup has developed an AI-powered software solution that helps companies craft recruitment and employer branding collateral that removes unconscious bias. The new funds will be used to further product development as well as accelerate commercialisation plans.
Founded in 2017 by Jenifer Clausell Tormos, PhD, Develop Diverse was established with the express purpose of using technology to improve diversity. One of the fastest and most effective ways of doing so is to revamp how language is used in crafting company descriptions and job profiles.
The software not only offers alternative wordings and/or phrases to eliminate bias, but also give the author the "why" behind the wording is exclusive to some readers. Drilling down even further, users can go word by word and eliminate and stereotypes, thus making the text appeal to a much broader spectrum of qualified candidates, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, neurodiversity, and physical disability.
Develop Diverse is currently used by institutions including Vestas and Danske Bank in over 35 countries and 5 continents around the globe. Thanks to Develop Diverse, clients have reported an increase in the number of female applicants by up to 80%.
“In a pilot project, the number of qualified female applicants increased by 81% and 39% for men after removing biases in job postings,” commented Danske Bank’s Head of Talent Acquisition Ole Bech Petersen.
