Digital hospitality company Velocity has acquired Uncover, the UK-based startup behind an eponymous restaurant discovery and reservation app. Both companies are headquartered in London; terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.
Velocity earlier acquired Tab Payments in Canada, as well as a New York-based payments app maker called Cover.
Uncover launched earlier this year, works with about 350 high-end restaurants in London, and has attracted 135,000 users to date. The three founders of the startup (David Saenz, Christopher Steinau and Dan Ziv) will join Velocity in senior management positions.
Velocity will likely shut down the Uncover platform as soon its products have been combined into a consolidated offering, which is poised to launch in early 2016.
Velocity was co-founded by Zia Yusuf, a former Goldman Sachs exec, and Alex Macdonald. The company recently landed $16 million in Series A financing to accelerate international expansion as it sets out to become the world’s leading international reservations, mobile payment and loyalty platform for premium restaurants and nightlife.
