CartoDB, the Spanish-American location intelligence startup, has beefed up its mobile offering with the acquisition of Nutiteq, an Estonian mobile mapping software development company with more than 15 million unique SDK installations to its name. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The addition of Nutiteq's technology, used by clients such as SeatGeek, LonelyPlanet, iRobot and Accenture, will give CartoDB the ability to offer a cross-platform mobile mapping SDK, with a rendering engine which it argues will complement its own geo-analytics capabilities.
“We believe there is a big opportunity to rethink how we interact with location data on mobile devices. Most geospatial innovation has been pushed to the consumer space.
Now enterprises will be able to make use of location intelligence on mobile devices with CartoDB.” said Javier de la Torre, CEO of the buying startup.
Jaak Laineste, CEO of Nutiteq, will lead the mobile division for CartoDB, and the entire team from the Estonian will make the transition.
