VPG Group, the French company behind popular private travel sales website Voyage Privé, has acquired Splendia, its Barcelona-based peer, for an undisclosed amount.
Founded back in late 2004, Voyage Privé competes with the likes of TravelBird and Secret Escapes, and currently covers 7 European markets: France, Spain, UK, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland and Poland.
By buying Splendia, the company is adding an online booking system for luxury hotels and villas to its platforms. The acquisition also gives it content management system technology and connectivity, which it deems "a necessity in developing further relations with hoteliers".
Spendia was also founded more than a decade ago, and has since grown to a portfolio of 3,500 luxury hotels and villas, more than 400,000 registered members (the large majority of which are based in Europe), and more than 40 employees.
In a statement, co-founder Elie de Coignac says "Splendia needed the support of an industrial operator".
With the addition of Splendia's business, VPG Group is projecting its turnover to reach more than €500 million this year.
