Music streaming service Deezer has struck a deal with Chinese smartphone giant Huawei that will see its app pre-installed on the company’s Honor smartphones.
The global partnership means that Deezer’s app will be available upfront to Honor users in Europe, Middle East, Russia and South East Asia. According to Deezer, it has a catalogue of 40 million tracks, and 40,000 podcasts and audiobooks on its service.
“Honor customers will get the best of both worlds - Smart technology alongside the best in music and radio,” said Gerrit Schumann, chief international officer at Deezer.
“Honor customers are always looking to find new ways to be entertained on their mobile devices. And Deezer is at the forefront of innovation and entertainment,” said Liu Dan, chief strategy officer, who also oversees the Honor range. “We are delighted to partner with Deezer as its extensive selection and variety of music and audio services will no doubt, surprise and delight our customers.”
According to figures provided by Deezer, it has 16 million monthly active users with six million paid subscribers globally in 180 countries.
Huawei’s Honor smartphones have recently been launching in more and more new markets around the world, including the US last month.
Deezer, based in France, halted plans for a €300 million IPO recently but last month secured a €100 million investment from Access Industries and Orange, as it faces an increasingly competitive market. Spotify acquired Soundwave in January following its $526 million funding round in 2015 while SoundCloud raised $32 million in debt funding and signed a deal with Universal Music Group.
